P5 Codling Apple Tree Details

Grid Ref P5
Tree Type Apple
Variety Codling
Rootstock M25
Date Planted 23 January 2011
(14 yrs 3 mths 26 days ago)
Tree Description Fruit golden yellow in colour. This is a cooker for use early in the season. The best characteristic is its low acidity and rapid breakdown when cooked. Only minutes and it is cooked to a light fluff with little or no need for any sugar.
Comments Chosen by RP. A veteran Codling tree grew beside the old stables in RP's family garden in Norfolk. Underneath the tree was a large patch of apple mint, and this was used with Codling apples to make the most wonderful jelly, delicious when eaten with roast lamb. The Codling in the Orchard has been specially grafted by EK from a Codling tree growing in a hedge at Hatten's Farm in Metfield.
